PRESIDENT'S LUNCH

On Friday, 15th October 2021 at Adelaide Oval, our industry came together to celebrate the achievements of the previous two years.

After facing a multitude of adversities, it was fantastic for our industry to be able to come together in a large-scale setting for a relaxed and positive afternoon.

With over 400 guests in attendance, it was evident that our industry was excited to catch up and network with fellow representatives again following the disappointing cancellation of our 2020 event.

Our Master of Ceremonies was TV Presenter and former AFL Player Troy Gray, who as always did a fantastic job in keeping our guests entertained whilst presenting the proceedings of the day.

To kick off the event, Master Plumbers SA President, David Hurst welcomed guests and recognised the challenges faced by the industry over the last 18 months. He provided an informative update on current issues and looking to the future.

Minister for Innovation and Skills, the Honorable David Pisoni, was in attendance as a guest speaker and provided guests with an update on Apprenticeships and skilled workforce in the construction industry.

Awards

To commence the Awards for the day, we saw six of our Apprentices receive recognition for their hard work and dedication. We presented four High Achievement Awards – one award for each year level, as well as an Outstanding Apprentice Award and a Work Health and Safety Award.

Previously known as the MPA Gold Medal, it was announced at our event that we had made the decision to honour industry icon, Jack Holder by renaming the medal to the Jack Holder Gold Medal.  We believe that renaming this Award in honour Jack’s honour further cements the high standard for our industry’s future leaders to aspire to. This prestigious award was presented to Connor Gregg, along with the CITB Award for Training Excellence.

Four Members were recognised for reaching their 25-year Membership Milestone with Master Plumbers SA. Although not all Members of this Milestone were able to attend to accept their Awards, all Members will receive a Certificate and gift which will be provided to them at a later date.

A very special Member Milestone was reached this year, with AJ Paternoster & Son Pty Ltd reaching their 100 Year Member Milestone Award. This is a fantastic achievement, which Rob Paternoster and his family were extremely proud to receive. 

Guest Speakers

It was a pleasure to have Craig de Laine, the Executive General Manager of Australian Gas Infrastructure Group as a guest speaker, who provided an informative presentation on the future of renewable gas.

Following main course, Steven Bradbury - Olympic Gold Medallist entertained the crowd, starting his presentation in stand-up comedy style and moving into his inspirational story of becoming an Olympic athlete. Steven had the crowd in stitches as they watched hand-picked guests struggle to be the last man standing during a speed skating training method. 

In closing, Steven successfully auctioned off two framed memorabilia items for charity, which saw $2000 raised for the Mary Potter Hospice.

To close the event, comedian Bruno Lucia had the crowd entertained with his funny one-liners and even got out his electric guitar for some hilarious impressions as formalities for the event came to a close.

Auction and Prizes

In addition to Steven's auction, Toyota kindly donated two auction items for the same charity, including a football signed by the current Adelaide Crows team, as well as a signed Redbacks shirt.

Throughout the day, we also had raffles and prizes and donated by our Sponsors, which included a Bosch Cordless Grinder, 4 x tickets to the footy, a bottle of Canadian Club, picnic cooler bag, a $100 Gauchos Voucher.
